Executive Team Development at Nesnah Ventures

...as leaders, we need to continue to learn, grow and work on self-awareness through committed development.
— Laura Hutzler, CHRO, Nesnah Ventures

CLIENT

Nesnah Ventures is a family-owned, private equity firm with a long-term focus. Nesnah’s goal is to enhance and facilitate growth in their people, as well as the companies they own and the customers they support. Nesnah is in its 23rd year of business and employs approximately 260 employees.

Nesnah’s portfolio of businesses supports services to a variety of customers including fast casual dining, weighing solutions, light manufacturing, agricultural feed production, and fuel sales and service.

OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE

According to Laura Hutlzer, Nesnah’s CHRO, Nesnah was looking for training, coaching, and development for their executive leadership team to help grow the businesses to the next level. In addition, they wanted to identify, align and develop the competencies needed to drive the future state of success of their businesses.

CO-DESIGNED SOLUTION

Laura stated that following a careful due diligence process, they selected Burns Leadership Consulting to guide them through the leadership development process.

Laura relayed that the executive team worked hard to identify ideal norms to guide their leadership team. This process led to some heavy topics of discussion that were embraced by the group and will result in the norms being utilized in the development of Nesnah’s cultural operating system.

The Nesnah team of executives engaged in completing a prioritization of executive-level roles and practices to align with future performance expectations for the team. In addition, each of the executives engaged in self-assessments and compiled 360 data to calibrate their awareness of how they were performing relative to the roles and practices. In addition, other assessments were used to provide additional insight regarding leader strengths and opportunities for development. Each leader engaged in one-on-one coaching.

Finally, the executive team convened on a monthly basis over a number of months to participate in team coaching. This provided an opportunity for real-time discussion of key leadership practices and actions to support the team’s future-oriented influence and impact.

OUTCOMES/SOLUTIONS

Laura stated that “as a result of this work, the Nesnah executive team works more collaboratively. In addition, a notable impact has been the recognition that as leaders, we need to continue to learn, grow and work on self-awareness through committed development.”
