Executive Team Development at PMI
CLIENT
In business for over 25 years, PMI specializes in metal stamping and metal fabrication. PMI employs 155 employees and serves a wide array of industries, including power generation, automotive, appliance, Department of Defense, heavy truck, emergency vehicles, building industry, and much more.
OPPORTUNITY/CHALLENGE
Chris Conard, PMI’s President, said, “PMI has grown very quickly over the past decade. The needs of our customers, employees, and all stakeholders continue to change at a rapid pace. We have done a great job improving facilities, equipment, and training employees to keep up with change and growth. While our executive team was focused on improving all areas of our business, we had not focused on our own growth opportunities as leaders.”
Chris indicated that PMI had conducted employee engagement surveys and worked on some executive team-building exercises. These steps helped identify some areas where PMI employees felt the executive team and organization could improve.
Chris added, “We have worked with Dan for many years as our company grew. He has been instrumental in helping us conduct surveys, leadership development, strategic planning, and employee training. Dan knows us well and he has proven himself to be a very effective facilitator.”
CO-DESIGNED SOLUTION
PMI’s executive leadership development included a discovery of needs through leader interviews and assessments. The result of the discovery process was a combination of additional assessments and identified learning and development topics, which were further supported through team coaching and one-on-one coaching.
Chris stated: “Dan led us through multiple training subjects including identifying critical success factors, leader accountability, leader resilience, and navigating challenging conversations. Dan led us in group discussions as well as conducted private one-on-one coaching to enhance the training.”
OUTCOMES/SOLUTIONS
According to Chris, the PMI executive team has learned to understand each other better which has made them more effective overall. Through Dan's training and coaching, the executive team has agreed upon behaviors to exhibit and accountability that will promote growth for the organization for years to come.
Chris relayed that it is hard to quantify their development results in terms of dollars however, the executive leadership team is more effective than it has ever been. PMI’s overall culture has improved, which will help retain employees and grow the bottom line.
Chris said, “The most notable impact for our team has been the renewed support of each other and our common goals to grow the company. The level of trust between executive leaders has improved greatly and I see everyone sharing their strengths to support common goals.”
